Reaction to “The Ruler” (S6, E15)

As I mentioned previously, this is the episode that prompted me to start reacting to the .to drops rather than the Disney broadcasts. This episode indirectly calls out some sins of Disney's own, so I strongly expect “The Ruler” to become a “lost” episode, like “The Gatekeeper” ep of “Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur”. This would disappoint me because the Nathmarc/Marcaniel dynamic is exactly what I needed to see when I was younger. Seeing a passionate, uplifting, and wholesome relationship between two boys would have helped me understand that love was not out of reach for someone like me… or at least, it would have made me feel like less of a freak.

We see relatively little of the Anciel household, except that it’s as colorful as Marc himself and it’s a supportive environment. Mostly, we see Nathaniel’s home, which quite frankly gives off Gabriel Agreste vibes: a monochrome palette with one parent holed up to themselves, lost in their design work.

As for the boys’ updated looks, Marc’s eighties-inspired eye make-up slays (and as we later discover, it’s waterproof). As for Nathaniel, people have already commented on the color symbolism of the paint-spattered overalls, but I’m more interested in how his hair still looks good even though Alix isn’t there to touch up the red. And here’s something I noticed not just with Nath, but with Ivan in “El Toro de Piedras”: the new animation engine allows for the rendering of realistic freckles.

Mr. Kurtzberg cluelessly suggests having the knights fight for the affections of Deep Darkness, an obvious villain, claiming it’s “what people want to see.” Rather, it’s what he thinks people want to see. Like many corporate executives and self-appointed cultural arbiters, he doesn’t understand the value of stories told from a minority or niche viewpoint because they think most viewers or readers outside that community won't accept the premise. They don’t understand the transcendent power of a strong narrative to break down barriers and resonate with people, as demonstrated by how much Nathmarc's classmates love their comic, even though not all of them are LGBTQ+.

Some critics of this ep have called the subplot of Marinette’s cold distracting, even gross. But it makes a valuable point about brand-new romance. We try to show our partners our best and most attractive selves at all times, but no one can maintain the illusion forever. Eventually, you will see them (or they will see you) doing something inelegantly, unflatteringly human, and if there's anything to your relationship, it will withstand that shock. (Even so, you’d think Marinette would consider sewing herself a cute surgical mask for hygiene’s sake.)

Frankly, the metaphor associated with Nath and Marc’s comic hits harder than Mjolnir; it’s more than a little on the nose. Perhaps it was the best way the writers could articulate the angst caused by Shirel’s opposition to their relationship within the context of what is supposedly a children’s show.

Speaking of angst, the ending of Nathaniel and Marc’s comic foreshadows harrowing developments for Ladybug and Chat Noir. Rain-Piercer and Sun-Heart risk losing their powers if they reveal their identities, just like LB and CN. Will they also end up in a position where they must choose between their powers and their relationship? And if that happens, will someone be there to rewrite the narrative?

Nathaniel’s bedroom features a huge picture window, filling the space with morning light. But it only emphasizes the muted colors within that room, with only a few hints of color. It’s certainly not as cheerful as Marinette’s room, or Adrien’s, or Alya’s. It symbolizes how Nathaniel is trying to find some light of his own despite his parents’ influence.

Continuing the metaphor, plenty of LGBTQ+ people have accidentally outed themselves by leaving incriminating evidence where the wrong person found it.

Shirel shredding Marc’s manuscript is, of course, a karmic callback to Nathaniel tearing up Marc’s journal back in “Reverser”, the episode that introduced the latter. More upsetting is Nath’s attempt to destroy every trace of his comic, even badgering Marinette to hand over the proofs. Here we see one of the tragedies of homophobia: it forces people to self-censor the best parts of themselves, to destroy the things that bring them joy and make them special, to deprive themselves and the world of all they have to share.

Nathaniel and Marc, aside from Adrien, are the only people who ever figure out that Marinette is the “jet plane”. I can’t tell if this is more foreshadowing or just incidental.

When Shirel drags Nathaniel out of school, she makes at least two references to Nathaniel “going straight,” at least according to the subtitles. No comment.

I guess Shirel never heard about the comics collection the Louvre Collection co-published and showcased in 2009.

Not Nathaniel transforming and bursting out of a closet!

Shirel says she’s making Nathaniel give up comics “for his own good”. It's an argument too many parents have used to justify “tough love” approaches to their queer children, up to and including conversion therapy.

At the end of the episode, Cerise mentions Nathaniel by name, suggesting she’s figured out he’s a Miraculous holder. Honestly, it wouldn’t have been that hard. Ladybug yelled out his whole government name when she told him to scram. And then a Miraculer showed up, fighting the villain du jour with art supplies, going after her like he had a personal stake in the fight. Between all that, I fear Caprikid has tipped his hoof.

The scene on Marinette’s roof gives “Adrien: The Fragrance” a brand new meaning.

Shirel’s tearful reaction to her son’s comic suggests she didn’t even read Marc’s manuscript before destroying it, not unlike moral guardians who try to ban books they haven’t even read. The epilogue continues that theme, with Marc's observations about how their comic had “effects in real life” and how they were “attacked for talking about love.”

In that context, the mutual reveal of Nath and Marc’s superhero identities does more than parallel the events in their comic. It symbolizes the power of queer visibility. Marc helps Nath discover his bisexuality; later, Nath gives Marc the courage to reveal himself as Rooster Bold. Coming out does more than assert our autonomy; it supports other people who aren’t out yet, showing them that they are not alone and giving them the confidence to live their own truth, to follow their own path.

I know this comic was very much about Marc and Nath and I very much don't want to take that away from them, but I definitely see the parallels between Rain-Piercer & Sun-heart and Ladybug & Chat Noir.

Maybe it's obvious, but I enjoy analyzing it!

Sun-Heart clearly parallels Adrien/Chat. Blonde/golden hair, the whole 'Sunshine' aspect? AdriChat's bright and sunny disposition?

Then we have Rain-Piercer. Dark hair, more concerned about the consequences of them revealing? And the reference to all of the rain symbolism between Adrienette/LadyNoir?

Lets' break it down:

So this could be taken one of 2 ways:

1) This might be referring to the final battle with Monarch. It's showing us that this could have happened between then and now, That LB and CN discussed revealing after Monarch was defeated. Though since we know they didn't reveal, I'd say it's more likely it's a potential hint to the future--

2) Lila/New Butterfly is the "Deep Darkness" (Though it could also refer to the council stuff) And this is foreshadowing what could happen once they defeat her.

Now they realize that if they reveal, they would have to give everything up. Stop being LB and CN? Maybe even never see each other again if their only connection remains their time as heroes.

Chat is ready to reveal but Ladybug warns him the consequences of revealing their identities.

If Chat Noir reveals himself to Ladybug, then he won't be allowed to be Chat Noir any more.

I'm guessing the Great-Rain is referencing the Celestial Guardian, or maybe the order of the Guardians or something. Maybe even Ladybug herself, as she's the current Guardian. Considering her parallel's name here is Rain-Piercer and the authority in this story is 'the Great Rain' it could very well be that they mean 'Ladybug' and 'Ladybug as Guardian'.

And the sacred armor is obviously the Miraculous.

But Chat is ready to reveal. He's waited so long. He wants this. Like it says, He'd rather lose his powers than his partner, who's always been by his side.

Now we have Ladybug, convinced by Chat that she wants this too. She decides to go through with it. Renounce her burden (With a passion!)

Interestingly enough, this time it says 'powers of the Great-Sun...' which... they just said it was the Great-Rain, so I'm wondering if this is a mistake, or intentional? I'd have to really listen to the french to pick out exactly what's said. Maybe 'Great-Sun' is intentional and means something. I'll come back to this if I figure it out!

And then of course, we get the happy ending and the much-awaited reveal and kiss! So Chat Noir and Ladybug reveal, and they have their beautiful moment!

But.

This is the re-written version.

In their original draft, they both gave up their powers to be together. Nathaniel thought it was unfair that they should lose everything and not have their happy ending.

This is something fans have been discussing for ages. And there's the whole possibility of Ladybug losing her memories if she renounces her Guardianship, which has also been hinted at in this season already.

So Nathaniel changed the ending to ensure they got to keep their powers and have their happy ending.

So is Nathaniel a parallel to the writers themselves? Changing the lore to ensure that Ladybug and Chat Noir can continue their journey even after an identity reveal?

So then this leaves the question of which version we're going to get by the end? Is this their way of showing us that they can continue the show for 12 seasons AND still give us the big reveal?

I mean, how do you continue a show like this for so many seasons and keep the fandom on the line for that long with no reveal? This could be their way of introducing the idea that the story CAN continue post-reveal!

That's just my thoughts on the matter anyway! I hope you enjoyed my breakdown!

i think a lot of people interpret sun-heart as nat's character and rain-piercer as marc bc of the color scheme but i think it's the opposite. marc is sun-heart bc of his personality. and rain is a metaphor for hardships and piercing the rain means going against odds + rain-piercer was the one who warned sun-heart not to show their faces even tho he clearly wanted to as well, and that sounds like nathaniel.

Full analysis and opinion on The Ruler

Warning THE RULER SPOILERS. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE EPISODE. And this is a REALLY LONG POST.

Oh man this is going to be a long rant. When I came back home and saw that the French subtitled version was available, I ran straight to sit and watch it. I was hopeful that it would be a Nathaniel-centered episode, since I had the theory that The Ruler might not refer to someone that rules over others, but to an actual ruler, which is an actual art supply. It sounds dumb, yes, but IT ACTUALLY BECAME REALITY. Because Nath's mother has a ruler in her hair.

The first scene we see is Nath sitting with his parents. He was showing the manga that he did with Marc to them, and his mother doesn't approve it. She says he should pursue a more "serious" art form.

This is something that happens to many artist throughout their journey. The way they illustrated this in this episode is so heart-shattering to me, maybe because it hits hard when you're in a similar situation. But anyway, poor Nath.

Also, the father talks about the possibility of the knights falling in love with the villain, a girl. This is important, because it's a topic that is repeated all over the episode. This comic is totally a metaphor on his own relationship with Marc, and thank god they didn't do this with their original comic, because it would've been too literal.

Then, we see that Marc's parents absolutely encourage him to write the story, totally contrary than Nathaniel's situation.

Then, we also see them at the school's art class. They are talking about the script, but he talks about that maybe the reveal scene isn't what people want to see. This means many things. This is portraying that maybe people they don't want to see THEM together. And not as friends, but as in actual dating. He also manifests being worried about the people on his circle reading it. And the fact that Marc's parents are accepting of their comic implies they may accept their relationship, too.

Then, they also show their classmates, and they all absolutely love the story. This shows that maybe, if they come out, everybody is going to support them. AND MARC TEXTUALLY SAYS: "Sun-Heart and Rain-Piercer is OUR STORY, MINE AND YOURS. It's all in our face.

Overall, this part of the episode in which they are debating wether to leave the script as it is or not is them debating wether to say they are a couple or not. Nathaniel hands out the script to Marc, but then comes running for it after. This shows us how much he really wants this, but he is restrained by the public opinion.

The next scene is Nathaniel finally getting to drawing it. But he says that the ending can't end like that, and that they can't lose their powers. Their powers can mean the "being themselves". The actually being a couple.

Then he shows Marc, and he says that he followed his heart when changing the script. This is because I feel like he felt that it just didn't sit right for them to not become something. So he takes action. And then Marc says that it's the best thing they have done together.

Their mother interrupts and scolds her son about drawing manga, and when Marc says that they're working on a school proyect, she says she's glad to see them getting serious, in the sense of actually pursuing something serious, implying even more on what I said before about that the art careers are never seen as serious enough.

After that, Marc and Nathaniel debate on wether to print it or not. Yet again, a metaphor on making their relationship public. But then, Nath says that all that has ended and that everybody is going to see it and that the manga is going to get printed. And then, here comes one of my favorite dialogues in the whole entirety of the series:

"Yes. What we've done is genuine, and when my mom reads it, she'll see how beautiful our story is. Beautiful, and important to us"

IM SOBBING.

Then they go to school and it gets printed and distributed, and when our favourite redhead gets home, he sees that his mother read the script. He questions his parents, since they wanted something genuine. But her mother says that it isn't genuine, and that he shouldn't waste his talent in comics. She even gets to the point of threatening with forbidding Nathaniel to see Marc.

Then, we se that Nathaniel is absolutely shattered as his mother destroys the script. The way this scene is animated breaks my heart, Nath's faces are so expressive and they pierced through my heart, at least, and made me emphatize with him a lot.

The next scene we see is him running and going back to the school. He transforms into Caprikid to create a gigantic paper shredder and destroys every comic that was printed, and remembers that Marinette has a copy. He goes to her house to destroy it. Marinette makes some sense into him and he lets her keep the manga's copy.

Some time after that, he tells Marc about everything that went on. And Nate says that it's better like that because they at least will be able to be friends. Another phrase I liked a lot from this episode: "My friend draws from the heart! He doesn't give up on his passion! My friend doesn't hide who he really is." This is an allusion to Nathaniel's queer identity. But then, we see he tells Marc to find another illustrator.

In the next scene, Marinette storms into some sort of storage room and sees Marc crying over what went on with Nathaniel. "For that [the drawing again] to happen, he'd need to change parents, too..." MY POOR MARC.

We later see that his mother came to pick Nathaniel up since he wasn't feeling well. Marinette storms in and offers to draw the comic. The mother gets into the conversation and gets mad when Marinette says that his son's talent could change people's minds and after knowing that he drew it in the end.

Nath's mother gets akumatized, and Marc jumps to protect Nathaniel, and gets affected by the akumas power and leaves Nate alone. And he gets even madder at his mom because he payed it with Marc. Nathaniel flees the scene and before transforming, he says: "Yes. I'm ready. I'm done hiding!"

There's also symbolism in this scene. Saying I'm done hiding and transforming INSIDE A CLOSET!!!!! It's crystal clear that this is alluding to him "coming out". In between commas because this might be also acting as Caprikid. I also find kinda funny that he uses art supplies as weapons when he could create actual weapons, lol.

Anyways, the fight goes on and they win using the akuma's powers against her. And after Marinette and Adrien's scene, Chrysalis says: "Nathaniel Kurtzberg, what is your true face?", so she might be looking out for him now.

Nathaniel and Marc are then seen at the redhead's house, and Nate's parents are reading the comic whilst they are HOLDING HANDSSSSSSS. IM FERAL. Nathaniel's mom finally accepts him going into manga and they hug. YAY HAPPY ENDING FOR NATEEEE

But the most intense part of the episode is the last. The two boys are in Nathaniel's room (?), and Marc says "We got attacked when we were just talking about love" AND HE GETS CLOSER TO NATHANIELLLLLLL. I'ts so obvious that the comic is about them. They also use the "great hate" of the manga to depict the homophobic people that don't accept their relationship. They also use the main character to depict themselves and they talk about not having powers. AND OH BOY.

"Power or no power, I'll always be there to protect you" 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

And Marc tells him that he isn't a superhero. AND NATHANIEL TRANSFORMS INTO CAPRIKID IN FRONT OF HIMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!! AND THEN MARC TRANSFORMS INTO ROOSTER BOLD!!!!!! THEY REVEAL IDENTITIESSSS!!!!!!!!!!

I never thought they'd be the next couple to know each other's identity, but I love that they both know now! And if they didn't notice that they hid Marc's transformation from us... THEY HAVE THINGS PLANNED FOR HIM, WE WILL GET ANOTHER MARCANIEL EPISODE 🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️

I was asking myself is Nathaniel's family was german or jewish with his last name and since his mother also has a Hebrew name (meaning the song of God) I would say jewish.

Shiriel (Nath's mom) is such an hypocrite when she said comics aren't art because they weren't exposed to the Louvre when industrial drawing and scenography weren't either and people would want more to see comics art there than her "noble art". Art is about giving people emotions just like the guy in the Louvre in El Toro de Piedra.

Plus she's wrong: someone on Twitter talked about comics exposition in the Louvre museum in 2009 called "le Louvre invite la bande dessinée", the Louvre invites Comics. It exposed BD (french-belgian comics books name), US comics and manga.

In Brussels there is also a comics museum and Belgian passeport is illustrated with characters from famous Belgian BDs.

Comics is recognised as an art just like Photography and Films and now Videogames. And its because of people like her some artists called their art graphic novels to appear more serious than with the word comics. Pop culture is still culture!

And she is accusing Marc of "converting" Nathaniel to comics... While we all know he was drawing comics before meeting Marc and that's what (being queer) draw them together. Plus, it's more Nathaniel who "converted" Marc of doing comics, since he wrote novels and short stories before meeting him.

Anyway, comics were always a metaphor for marcaniel being a couple since Marc debut episode where him asking for a comics collaboration could also be seen as asking to going out with him. Plus the episode where Markov got akumatised again and Nathaniel was taken along side with their comics. It's a great metaphor because with all the puns you couldn't miss the point and it's difficult to censor it in other countries since it's just about making comics, right? Maybe some scenes could be cut like the kiss between the knights. But not the whole episode. (But it's even difficult to cut the kiss scene since it's the ending card!)

But the subtle clues don't stop there! The fact that Caprikid draws a carabiners also has symbolism!

I love the artstyle of the knights! Who is the artist IRL? are they the same person than the artist that made Adrien in a dress? Everyone is talking about how the knights could be Marc and Nathaniel insert reader at each other or Adrien and Marinette as the love square. But my logical ass only notices why it's the grand rain that gave powers to Heart Sun and the great Sun to Rain Piercer and not the other way around?

Someone pointed it out that the colors of paint on Nath's clothes are the bi flag and how I didn't recognize my own flag?? I also love his disguised Miraculous! I first thought that Nathaniel's and Marc's miraculous will be inverted because I saw more Marc with hair clips than Nathaniel but it suits him! Plus, I don't know if having a bang on one eye means he's hiding half of himself as a bisexual. I don't know if it's a common experience as a bi person to try to appear as het to avoid homophobia and rejection before our coming out.

I love the scene where Nathaniel caresses Marc's cheek while saying he will always protect him. He was so smooth! I love the protective partner trope and soft touches! Will it be a foreshadowing for Marc's focus episode? Where we would see his transformation sequence ? Will it be about school harassment? With the blond wig guy that threat Zoé? Can't wait to watch it to have more of this adorable couple!

About Marinette being sick, I understood it was because of spring allergy (not sure of the name in English) and not actually "sick with bacteria" to explain why she was going to school instead of staying at home.

he thinks this is a phase and that Nathaniel will become straight when he grown up

rain piercer and sun heart lack real sentiment because it's gay (not a real relationship) meanwhile them fighting for the villainesses heart would have real sentiment because it's a heteronormative macho man sort of plotline

His dad isn't actually accepting, he just doesn't believe that Nathaniel knows what he is/wants. Where his Mom wants to lay down the law to set him straight, his Dad is encouraging him to move on from this phase

Seeing that Marcaniel’s passion for comic books obviously acted as a metaphor for being queer this episode, I’d just like to point out that it wasn’t just Nathaniel’s mother being depicted as the homophobic parent, but his dad also depicted a different flavour of non-acceptance this episode.

I think he’s meant to represent the kind of parent that says that they accept queer people but continue to enforce their own agenda onto their queer child regardless. Him saying that the relationship between the two knights lacked real sentiment and instead suggesting it would be better for them to fall for the villain lady instead because that’s what people wanted to see is just another form of disregarding your child’s queer interests and suggesting that they put on a heteronormative mask instead to appease others.

What's your opinion on a prompt in which Glory characters (like Lord Grim or something) escaped the computer and made it into the real world. (insp. by a weird dream I had)

Oh!!!! This would actually be really interesting-

Quan Zhi Gao Shou has really great characters- The game characters would probably be really interesting too

I went really deep into this lol. Sorry if this wasn’t exactly what you were looking for when you asked for my opinion ;^^

I suppose if only the glory gods’characters would come out then:

In Team Tyranny, Desert Dust, Immovable Rock, and Dazzling Hundred Blossoms would come out; seeing as most people design their characters after themselves ( as it would be easier to recognize people in the animation haha) If the avatars (i’ll just refer to them as avatars now) know a bit of what’s going on in reality then I think the relationship between Jiale and his avatar would be really interesting. Would DHB be supportive of Jiale’s choice? Would he hate Jiale? Since Team Hundred Blossoms was pretty much named after DHB in the first place. And if the avatar’s personalities are influenced by their creators and style the avatars are used, then I think everything would be pretty enjoyable for Han Wenqing and Zhang Xingjie.

In Team Samsara, I think the two avatars that would ‘pop out’ would be Sun Xiang’s One Autumn Leaf and Zhou Zekai’s Cloud Piecer.

If OAL were to appear, I think his and Sun Xiang’s relationship would be strained. Sun Xiang was never really meant to get OAL in the first place- Qiu Fei was. I don’t think OAL would hate Sun Xiang- I just think he wouldn’t be the friendliest with him. And if OAL carries some of Ye Xiu’s personality when he was in EE (Ye Xiu had different mannerisms with EE- we can assume he was much more friendlier to the pros of other teams, but seeing as his relationship with EE was kinda bad, OAL would have that held-back personality), then he would be very aloof. But OAL had been with Ye Xiu since the start of Glory- so maybe there’s that light-hearted, joking personality Ye Xiu had before the pro league (and when muqiu was still alive).

Cloud Piercer would be extraordinarily handsome. Maybe even more than Zhou Zekai lol Cloud Piercer’s personality would be interesting to see- would he be quiet? Zhou Zekai doesn’t really talk- would Cloud Piecer be the same? But then Zhou Zekai’s style of playing is really, really flashy- Cloud Piecer could be like that too. I think it might be kinda funny to imagine that. Zhou Zekai standing quietly while Cloud Piercer posing flashily in the background, wind coming out of nowhere to make him look even more outstanding-

In Team Tiny Herb, Vaccaria would appear. I don’t think there would be too much drama surrounding Wang Jiexi and Vaccaria- both would be undoubtedly calm, and like father-figures. Actually, does Vaccaria have the same sized eyes? Since he wears an eyepatch we can’t really tell… and since Wang Jiexi was not Vaccaria’s original owner.

Team Blue Rain: We’d see Troubling Rain and Swoksaar. Swoksaar would probably be really calm and collected on the outside. But seeing how Swoksaar’s original owner was Old Wei, and how Yu Wenzhou is not really innocent himself, I imagine Swoksaar would be responsible for a lot of mischief. And if Troubling Rain would have Huang Shaotian’s personality and mannerisms… Team Blue Rain would have burst eardrums.

And finally- Team Happy. We’d probably see Dancing Rain, Lord Grim, and Boundless Sea. I don’t really know much about Fang Rui and Boundless Sea soooooo…. But Dancing Rain and Lord Grim QAQ. I would imagine that if they were to appear, there would be a lot of emotion. First of all, both Lord Grim and Dancing Rain would probably carry a bit of Muqiu in them- seeing as Muqiu was the original creator. And I have my own personal HC- Lord Grim was more designed to look like Muqiu, rather than Ye XIu. In the animation, Lord Grim pretty much is Ye Xiu, but a (desperate and grasping at straws) part of me can maybe see a bit of Muqiu. And imagine that- imagine how Ye Xiu and Su Mucheng would feel, almost seeing Muqiu himself.

In my humble opinion I always thought that Sun Heart was Marc and Rain Piercer was Nathaniel

(I also love the ending and how they basically acknowledge and address how LGBTQ+ people are literally attacked for no good reason, (just because they love who they love or for merely existing). It's even worse because they're kids, so this was probably their first time ever dealing with something like this, because everyone around them has been so supportive. So to actively have to experience the hate LGBTQ+ people go through every day just for existing it must have been a real shock to them)

And to everyone out there saying that this was a bad idea I beg to differ, The only two people who can't know each other's identities are Ladybug and Cat Noir and as long as nobody on the outside of their team learns their identities they should be fine

(Remember Luka knows too.)

Everyone wants to say that this is very similar to ephemeral but do we all seem to conveniently forget that Alia and nino also share these kinds of secrets with one another. When they got their identities revealed Yes it was out of their control but when Alia became Rena Fertive she later on told nino the truth she didn't keep that secret from him

(Plus when Marinette has that conversation with Alia about telling nino about her second role she doesn't get angry at her she understands why she did it, she trusts her friends with these miraculouses you really think she didn't expect them to do something like this, Heck everyone knows Alix's identity even Lila herself)

This might seem bad on the surface but in reality this is not a bad thing for these two to do

The only reason why Nathaniel even reveals himself in the first place was because he didn't want Marc to worry about him, because he could tell based off that comment "I don't want you throwing yourself into danger for me cuz you're not a superhero" that he was worried and he didn't want to worry his boyfriend That's how you know they really love each other

Are you seriously going to tell me that Rose and Julica wouldn't have done the same thing or what about Ivan and Milan

It's not their fault as the story foreshadowed this ending anyway they shouldn't have to lose their powers because of their love after all the original ending was foreshadowing this ending the entire time

(I understand why people thought this was about Marinette Adrian but no this was about them)

They didn't make a mistake here I actually wholeheartedly agree with this choice of theirs. The only thing we should be concerned about isn't them revealing their identities but Lila taking an interest in Nathaniel in the first place because if she's taking an interest in one of our heroes (like Gabe did To Luka) then that's what we should be worried about not them revealing their identities this was going to happen sooner or later

As Rena Rouge and Carapace showed us if you truly love someone you don't hide these kinds of secrets from them

I want to list them all below : (My interpretations and others I saw here (that I also reblog for most of them if you wanna check) and Twitter)

First, Thomas Astruc confirms Marcaniel isn't official yet. That's why they said "my friend" et didn't kiss in the episode.

Nathaniel has the bi flag as paint stains and Marc Anciel is a pun: (M)arc-en-ciel means rainbow in French and has a rainbow theme in his character design.

Nath's father comments are heteronormative with a rush het couple making more sense for him than a slow burn because it's gay. (We can say friend ennemies is indeed what people want to read, especially these days, but a gay x homophobic doesn't make any sense... I don't have any thing against friends to ennemies) plus the heteronormative view that love is higher than friendship (which is also a kind of love)

Comics aren't a serious art like same sex couples aren't mean to last from homophobic perspective

People don't want to read that = comics as they don't want to see queer characters in media (just like other minorities) because it feels forced to them (whenever the couple is good written just like Sun-Heart and Rain-Piercer seem to be)

Sun-Heart + Rain-Piercer = Rainbow = being queer

Marc's mother having rainbow earrings to contrast with Shirel's ones and a sunny dress. Could imply that Marc's parents are supporting him (both as a writer and as a queer) Does he father wear sunglasses?

When the knights show their true faces (reveal identity) but also love reveal with their true feelings

Being afraid of the teachers, friends and family reaction to the comics = coming out. Heaving on parents in Nath's tone.

That's the story of all of us = all the characters in the room, as queer teenagers discovering themselves, could relate to the story

The fear and hesitation of Nath of drawing something true to his heart but also revealing for others

The unfairness of the knights for loosing their powers because they show who they truly are (gay) = queer people loosing their human rights (or even being killed) for being who they truly are

Hiding things whenever his mother enters his room which is really blank outside his desk (where he creates) as to not say too much about him to his parents

The ruler could be seen as the control parental authority. Plus her weapon is a stamp she used as an architect on her creations, symbolise how she sees her son as her propriety she created just like her drawings

"you will never do comics again" = you won't be queer anymore

"Deep Darkness or someone else, the Great Hate hasn't been defeated" = even if you turned or defeated one homophobic, that won't stop the whole homophobia situation in the whole world

"They can keep the fight! / "Kinda like us!" = for your human rights in the real world and for the love to win at the end
